Self-Portrait Challenge #4: Reflection

self-portrait: reflection
#1923. Kodak Ektar 100, Mamiya C220.
Here is another photo from my Self-Portrait Challenge. The theme for this one was reflection. The photo turned out better than I had anticipated. That being said, I think that it could do with an improvement. Conceptually, if I had to take this photo again, I think I would have some friends pretend to be arguing in the background so that it looks like I’m turning on the TV to escape the noise.

Taking creative self-portraits is an odd thing. It usually triggers a mix of emotions in me. On the one hand, I’m excited by the creative and technical challenges of creating an intetesting photo as both subject and photographer, but on the other hand, it also makes me feel incredibly self-conscious and slightly embarrassed to be posing for the camera in a variety of contrived situations and poses. If these photos weren’t taken in the privacy of my own home, I don’t think I would have done this challenge at all!

I’ve posted the entire Self-Portrait Challenge list in a previous post in case you’re interested in seeing some of my other photos — or even if you want to try the challenge for yourself! Even if you never share a single photo, taking creative self-portraits will challenge your creativity and skills as a photographer and is well worth the effort.
