Staying at a Buddhist temple was a unique experience. As expected, the accommodations were spare; the rooms were small and simple. Avoiding the humidity was impossible and our bedsheets were perpetually damp. Western-style toilets were non-existent. The open-to-the-air bathrooms had squat toilets with stalls that came up as high as your chest. The showers were the same as what you might find at a gym and I occasionally found myself showering with the monks. Our room was located next to the Seven Buddha Hall which meant there was no real privacy at the temple and we would awaken to the noise of the public visiting in the early morning. The doors to the temple were opened to the public around 6:00am. All that being said, it was beautiful and peaceful. I enjoyed the quiet evenings and time spent wandering the temple grounds.
