More Cosplay

With the Calgary Comic Expo coming up next week, I thought I’d post some of the cosplay photos I took last year.
Stanley Park Seawall

I shot these in August 2014 while walking the Stanley Park Seawall in Vancouver.
Shooting with Labeauratoire [kromiəm] 500

These were shot at the Calgary Zoo using Labeauratoire [kromiəm] 500 slide film that I then had cross-processed at The Darkroom. As you can see, the color shifted towards yellow. I don’t really like it cross-processed, so when I shot a roll at Christmas, I had it developed as E-6. It turned out much better, […]
Winter Fashion Shoot

Back in December, I participated in my first model shoot. I’ve never photographed models before so it was a bit of a learning curve. I wasn’t really sure of how to give the models direction or even what I wanted. I felt rather silly so I mostly hung back and watched what the other photographers […]
Heritage Park

These were all shot at Heritage Park using my Canon Rebel 2000 and Ferrania Solaris FG Plus 100 film. I got my Rebel 2000 two years ago for only $35 on eBay. Since then, I’ve shot 99 rolls of film with it. That’s half my film total. I love this SLR because it’s light, easy […]
Tower Beach

I shot these in July 2014 at Tower Beach in Vancouver. Tower Beach takes its name from the two World War II era searchlight towers that still stand on the beach silently guarding the entrance to Burrard Inlet. The photos below are of Tower #2 aka CASL #9 (Coast Artillery Search Light) which sits further […]
More Adox Color Implosion

I have really come to love shooting with Adox Color Implosion 100 film. I always shoot it at box speed and I just love the color tones and grain. It gives a really nice vintage look. And I’m really impressed by the consistency of this film too. I know exactly what I’m going to get […]
Vintage Fire Trucks

These vintage Ford fire trucks were shot at the Bomber Command Museum in Nanton.
Bristol Hercules Engine

I took these photos of one of the Bristol Hercules engines owned by the Bomber Command Museum of Canada. This engine works and would have originally been mounted on a Handley Page ‘Halifax’ bomber. You can see it below being serviced by a member of the museum’s Halifax team who are working towards the goal […]
Fountain Statues

I shot these over Christmas as it snowed using Kodak Tri-X 400 film. I love this film! It has a wide exposure latitude and good contrast and I always get great results.
Edworthy Park Photowalk

These are the first few photos from my Diana Mini. I got my Diana Mini for free from Lomography for spending $100 on film (so it wasn’t really free). I quite like this little camera and am pleased with the results. Nearly every photo I took with this camera over Christmas was in focus and […]
Starboat Cove

Whenever I’m back home on the coast, I try to sneak in a hike or two while visiting family. These were taken during a hike through Lighthouse Park in West Vancouver. I like to hike a few of the lesser used trails (fewer tourists) and my favourite leads to Starboat Cove. I snapped these with […]
Canoes and Lake

The shot of the canoes is one of my favourite photos. I love the light and dark of it. These were shot on Fomapan Action 400 film which along with Kodak’s Tri-X are my favourite B&W films.
Purple Sky

I love shooting these two statues in Burnsland Cemetery and have photographed them many times with different cameras and film. These were shot with my Canonet QL17 and a roll of Velvia 100. I love the pink and purple tones of these shots.
Flamingos

Every year, the Calgary Zoo hosts an event for photographers called ‘Focused’. During the event, the Zoo opens two hours early for photographers to photograph the animals in the early morning light. These photos of Chilean flamingos were taken during last year’s Focused event.
Holga Mishap

I own a 35mm back for my Holga 120 CFN, so one day I loaded it up with some Lomography Slide/X-Pro 200 ISO film and headed to Burnsland Cemetery. Unfortunately, I had a little mishap while I was taking photos. The back cover fell off my Holga and completely exposed the film. I tried my […]
Sad News for the Holga

Sad news this week: the Holga has been discontinued. They won’t be making this iconic camera anymore. Some are happy to see its demise, but they are missing the point. The Holga is beloved because of its light leaks and vignetting. It’s not a DSLR. It’s a plastic toy camera. You can do things with […]
Steam Locomotive

I shot these back in June at Heritage Park using a roll of Ferrania Solaris FG Plus 100 film that I bought from Katie Shoots Film (back when it was called ‘Curating Cuteness’). They turned out better than expected considering the film expired in 2007. The old steam locomotive runs all around Heritage Park and […]
First Nations Bronze Statues

These photos of bronze statues of First Nations people were taken in the Artisan Gardens at Bow Valley Ranch in Fish Creek Park. The Artisan Gardens honour the First Nations people who used to live in Fish Creek Valley.
