Looking Down on Auckland
I shot these from the balcony of my hotel on my first visit to Auckland. As I was enjoying the view one morning, I started to notice all the interesting things happening below me and had to snap a few photos.
On the Farm
Here are a few more photos from the family farm. New Zealand farms are often very hilly making them best for dairy farming or raising sheep. This one even has an apple orchard.
Wintergardens #2
These photos were taken at the Wintergardens in Auckland, NZ. Sarah and I spent a quiet afternoon wandering around the Wintergardens and Auckland Domain. It was an absolutely beautiful and incredibly hot day and I remember we enjoyed an ice cream in the shade of a tree.
Flock of Sheep
These two photos of a flock of sheep were taken on Sarah’s parents’ farm. They have since sold the farm. I’m not sure what happened to the sheep.
Motuara Island Part 2
These are the last of my photos from my exploration of New Zealand’s Queen Charlotte Sound by air, sea and land. Motuara Island is home to the Little penguin and there are many man-made nesting boxes scattered throughout the island for their use. Each nesting box has a lid that you can flip open to […]
Motuara Island Part 1
These photos from Motuara Island are from a weekend where Sarah and I explored New Zealand’s Queen Charlotte Sound by air, sea and land. Historically, Motuara Island is the location where, in 1770, Captain James Cook and his officers raised the British flag and claimed New Zealand for the use of the British Empire. Today, […]
The Historic Village
The Historic Village in Tauranga, NZ is a “collection of original and replica buildings from early Tauranga”. It’s a sort of museum for old buildings — similar in concept to Heritage Park here in Calgary except on a much smaller scale and without the re-enactors or key attractions such as a steam locomotive or vintage […]
Queen Charlotte Sound: By Sea
After our adventure in the air, Sarah and I explored New Zealand’s Queen Charlotte Sound (aka Totaranui) by sea. We booked a 4-hour sea tour with E-Ko Tours that took us up the Sound to Motuara Island and back again. It was a pleasant experience and a fun day on the water. These are some […]
Queen Charlotte Sound: By Air
When Sarah and I visited Marlborough, we took a few days to explore Queen Charlotte Sound by air, sea and land. Sarah knew I wanted to see and do just about everything on my first visit to New Zealand and so she surprised me by booking a scenic flight over Queen Charlotte Sound with Pelorus […]
Blenheim, NZ
When Sarah and I toured wineries in Marlborough, New Zealand, we stayed in Blenheim, a small town on the South Island. It was very peaceful and we wandered around town taking pictures. If you’re ever there, I highly recommend the Watery Mouth Café (third photo). It was so good, we had breakfast there every day.
Wither Hills
Sarah & I had lunch at Wither Hills Winery one summer in Marlborough, New Zealand. We had lunch in the courtyard where I had an amazing pinot noir. Afterwards, we went inside for a wine tasting and ended up buying a bottle of noble riesling.
Statues at Government Gardens
These are photos of a few of the statues on the grounds surrounding Government Gardens in Rotorua, New Zealand. I quite like the way the first photo turned out. I love the look of Kodak Tri-X 400. It is an absolutely beautiful B&W film.
Attack of the Swan
As Sarah and I took a walk around Lake Rotorua, I spotted this couple enjoying the lake beneath the shade of a tree… and I spotted a swan swimming nearby. This unsuspecting couple never saw it coming until it was too late… but thankfully I did. And so I hung around and did my best […]
Mount Maunganui
These were shot in Mount Maunganui, a suburb of Tauranga, back in July.
Girl Playing with Pigeons
These were shot in Auckland, New Zealand. Sarah and I were taking a walk when I saw this girl sneaking up on some pigeons. I nearly missed the photo of her scaring the pigeons to take flight. I’m glad I didn’t. I took these using FPP B&W 100 film which is really Orwo UN54.
Auckland Domain
I shot these one day while Sarah and I wandered around the Auckland Domain.
Lake Rotorua
Sarah & I took a walk along Lake Rotorua one hot day and I managed to snap these photos on Kosmo Foto Mono 100 film.
Expired Konica Centuria
Expired film can be so unpredictable. Sometimes you can shoot with 10 year old film and the results are amazing and other times, not so much. As a general rule of thumb, you should shoot expired film one stop slower than box speed for every decade past the expiry date and you should also bracket […]
